Early fixation of clavicle (collar-bone) fractures

A recent metanalysis by Xu et al. has added weight to the evidence for the early fixation of clavicle fractures. They conclude that in the management of midshaft clavicular fractures, surgery is superior to nonoperative treatment. Surgery with plates results in lower incidences of nonunion, fewer total complications, and fewer symptomatic malunions compared with nonoperative treatment. Operative versus nonoperative treatment in the management of midshaft clavicular fractures: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. Jing Xu, Lei Xu, Wendong Xu, Yudong Gu, Jianguang X. Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery - February 2014 (Vol. 23, Issue 2, Pages 173-181.
